Why Every American Christian Should Vote?
You will be accountable to God for how you use the authority he has given you.
Christians in the United States must vote and vote in a manner that is informed by their worldview. We should vote not only because we are called to be salt and light, preserving our society (Matthew 5:13-16), but also because God has entrusted us with the authority to vote. God will hold us accountable for how we use this responsibility.
While our founding fathers were far from perfect, they understood a fundamental truth: sin has infected everyone and everyone in power is prone to corruption. To address this, they established a system of checks and balances within our government. The president is not a king and does not have unchecked power; he is not supposed to make laws. The House of Representatives and the Senate are intentionally designed to slow the legislative process, preventing hasty enactment of laws. The president can check the powers of Congress, while the Senate has the authority to impeach the president. Additionally, judges can review the legality of the laws passed by Congress. State governments and local leaders also have limitations on their power. All these entities are accountable to the voters.
Romans 13:1 (ESV) "Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God."
This verse makes it clear that all governing authorities exist because God has placed them there. The highest governing authority in the United States is the Constitution, designed to hold the powers of our leaders in check. The constitution makes clear that it derives its authority from the people. Thus, the final layer of power in the United States rests with the people.
You have been placed in America and granted the authority of your vote. You are free not only to speak your mind but also to act based on your beliefs.
I will not tell you whom you should vote for, but I will emphasize that you will be held accountable for how you act or fail to act. Unlike those who live under dictators or kings of old, you have power granted to you by God. You need to understand what God's word teaches about modern-day issues. Then, you must speak out.
Use the authority that God has given you to make a difference.
